EVENT: Lia Halloran with Jori Finkel and Janna Levin

Where: Luis de Jesus Los Angeles, 1110 Mateo Street, Los Angeles, CA 90021

When: December 14, 2:00 - 3:00pm

Join artist Lia Halloran and special guests, astrophysicist and author Janna Levin, and New York Times writer, art critic and author Jori Finkel for a lively conversation exploring the ideas and subjects in the exhibition. The paintings in Night Watch expand upon themes of perception and time—exploring the passing of time over various scales informed by the imagery of star trails, the changing of seasons, and the Earth's orbit around the sun. Halloran’s paintings create a visual dialogue between the mechanical and the natural, from the cyclical nature of the seasons and, the gradual transformation of landscapes, using colors and textures to evoke the seasonal change. Referencing the iconic Device works of Jasper Johns, her new series investigates how mechanized machines and tools symbolize the passage of time. Read about the speakers.
