NIGHT WATCH
Opening in November 2024 at Luis De Jesus Los Angeles in the main gallery, "Night Watch" is a solo exhibition of new oil paintings that will be presented as part of the official programming of Getty’s Pacific Standard Time: Art and Science Collide. This exhibition delves into overarching themes from Halloran's past works, focusing on manipulating perception and time. "Night Watch" expands upon these ideas by exploring the passage of time across various scales, drawing inspiration from star trails, the changing seasons, and Earth's orbit around the sun.
Halloran's paintings create a compelling visual dialogue between the mechanical and the natural, capturing the cyclical nature of the seasons and the gradual transformation of landscapes. Through a masterful use of color and texture, the works evoke the subtle shifts of seasonal change, inviting viewers to contemplate the delicate interplay between time and nature. Referencing the iconic 'Device' works of Jasper Johns, this series investigates how mechanized machines and tools can symbolize the passage of time. Halloran's use of rich, layered oil paints explores the depth of color and surface, creating an immersive experience that reflects on the fluidity of time and its impact on our perception of the world around us.
